Even if we get out of the 'uncanny valley' and see massive jumps in gaming tech, it still won't be a real-life simulation, and most of the gameplay will be very game-like, just very high-quality, even as late as 2026. For real-life simulation at all levels during gameplay (real-time updating graphics, etc.), you will most likely have to wait until at least 2030 or later for PC, and 2045 for console, if it even happens at all. But, I don't think this is how our future will shape.
2045 is said to be the year when technology becomes so powerful that it overthrows humanity, known as the so-called 'singularity'. This will come at both levels: software and hardware. It will also come both in the form of A.I. and computing power, and in tech-body modifications. This makes it very difficult to understand what is going to happen, and what that will really mean, in reality, when it comes to simulation creation and humanity. As of right now, tech in the body is not a thing, though tech controlling your life via your phone is a thing, and tech being so powerful that humans cannot fully control it also already exists in the A.I. world, along with the entire network we now have, so this is clearly the route we will see, in the form of A.I., though most likely not robots. It will be the A.I. and info pool and systems that ruin society and humanity, which means we will have ruined ourselves, in large part. There is no strong evidence that robots will take over or any other theory in this regard, though computers could take over, with human controllers. Computers cannot think, but humans can program computers to control you, as slot machines are crafted to control you, even though they are of low-technology. Notice the 'ping' noise on your phone, for example, perfectly crafted to trick your brain into thinking it's of great import and like you have gained something (even when you have not). Like slot machine noises. It's going to be the big companies and A.I./algorithms, if the last 10 years is anything to judge (namely, Facebook, Twitter, the FBI/CIA, Amazon, Netflix, Google, YouTube, the news media, and think tanks, such as Cambridge Analytica and its copies or sister-companies, as it were). All of this, ironically, points towards something like Ready Player One) mixed with Huxley's Nightmare as our future by 2045, compared to something like Orwell's Nightmare or general robotic dystopian stories, or even The Matrix film. (For more insight into this and related systems and ideas, see the algorithm-driven videos by the likes of Bret Weinstein and Jonathan Haidt.)
This will be a 'softer', slow takeover, therefore, until the system crashes, and it becomes completely tribal and impossible to handle, which we already see today and have seen since at least 2008. Alan Moore called this a kind of 'steam culture', which is even beyond something that is 'fluid'. It's so filled with data and confusion, that you cannot even see it, let alone grab it. Alan foresaw, back in a 2002 interview, that this 'steam culture' would reach the West by 2011 or so, as computing power would be too powerful for humans to handle by this time. Alan was largely right, and it came in the form of modern social media, massive data-storage systems, personality-tracking think tanks (like Cambridge Analytica), fourth wave feminism, and Gen-Z wokeism between 2010 and 2014 (again, for insight into this, see Jonathan Haidt's lectures). As we became flooded with data and info (and 'news'), our culture broke down, and then everything broke down, as we didn't know how to correctly fit ourselves into it. We didn't know how to live. Humans are fast, but we are not machines. We need time. This is why I fundamentally disagree with H.G. Wells when he complained about the British Government always been 30 years behind and 'too slow to update' circa 1910. This 30-year period of process and progress is important. You cannot rush anything, no matter how significant you think it is. Alan noted that machines and raw data does not have this problem. They update as quickly as possible, without any real limitation or checks and balances or periods of reflection -- nothing. As such, our technological landscape updates itself every 15 seconds (not literally, but it's shockingly fast), but the human culture still only updates itself every 15-30 years, or even every 5 years in a lesser sense if you really want to push it. There is just too much of a lag, and too much of an informational overload. This is what has led to our 'fake news' culture and other major issues. Too much data and not enough time to reflect and process. For example, over just two years, from 2018 to 2020, we almost doubled all of the data in the world from 33 ZB to 59 ZB. We have gained more advancement and data over the last 150 years than the last 2,000 (more, I would assume).
Huxley's Nightmare is that humans will drown in too much information and stimuli (compared to Orwell's Nightmare of humans starving due to a lack of information). The former is clearly the case if you just look at the Gen-Z (those born around 1995 onwards). They are quite literally drowning, and dying, as a result, which you can clearly see from Jonathan Haidt's data-sets in the link I gave prior (Three Terrible Ideas lecture). (Of course, Orwell is somewhat correct, since we are starving due to a lack of meaningful, truthful information, but not information itself (Jordan Peterson is clear proof to this, as his core message is one of putting meaning and truth back in your life, and is currently one of the most popular messsages in the world today). But, Orwell is somewhat correct again, if we think that the data of the world is not controlled by the U.S. Government directly, but is controlled by the tech giants, so it's still being controlled by central force(s). (Having said that, China does control Chinese data and the data of individual citizens and has done since 1948 (a LinusTechTips video showed this, when they set up a Chinese TV in Canada and used a Chinese code, which showed that they have a Netflix-like system owned by the Chinese Government, and that there is an opening message on the screen, stating something along the lines of, 'all data on this device is owned by and will be collected by the Government of the People's Republic of China'), so this is a literal example of Orwell's Nightmare circa 1940 manifesting itself in the world, but not the free, Western world -- for that, you need Huxley. The West, then, can be said to have too much freedom, to the point of total self-bondage via our tech and social systems. You are free to follow the collective herd. Like that's what freedom ever meant.
Our culture as of 2021 is very much like this Huxleyean Nightmare, only it's now controlled even more by our own technologies and algorithms, along with the small group of (typically liberal-biased) humans behind them (many of them out of Silicone Valley), with at least 50% of everything in the West being directly or indirectly controlled by Google, Amazon, Twitter, and Facebook, including shopping habits, voting patterns, news, education, entertainment, science, and lawmaking (for insight into this, watch Harris' documentary, The Social Dilemma). Back in 2015-2016, the data-gathering think tank Cambridge Analytica got involved in the electoral system of America, and had over 5,000 data-points on over 50 million American voters (which got Facebook into trouble, as well, which you can find online/YouTube circa 2016-2017), which meant they could massively impact your belief system, sense of reality, emotional makeup, and voting patterns (since we know that voting patterns are largely built upon your prior personality and moral makeup, and even your disgust system, which they can fairly hijack over a short-ish period of time. You can learn about this in the documentary on it, The Great Hack). As of 2021, we know that such companies exist and have at least 25,000 data-points in their profiles for anybody they target. Not sure if this is better or worse, but it seems likely to me that soon, even this will be out of human control, such that the A.I. systems themselves will be the ones with more than 25,000 data-points on each user (person), and will control them as required or commanded without much human input at all beyond the startup process. This is alreasdy happening to some degree with Twitter, Facebook, Google, and YouTube. It has a shared eco-system via the current 'cookies' and overall network, largely controlled by Google itself, where it shows you what it thinks you want to see and wants to show you -- rather, it grabs your attention (which is the key and equals money for the companies, TOP (time-on-platform) for the user, and a virtual pat on the head for the A.I.) by giving you the most 'triggering' thing to see, having auto-play for videos, and other new-ish features. This attention-grabing system can sometimes even be clear, as I have seen with some English ads on TV, which I find very worrying and creepy.Or, Facebook just outrights brainwashes you with whatever its current philosophy and plans are. Twitter is like this and clearly run on a negative feedback system if you just study Twitter. This is the case because we know that negative input impacts our motivational system 2.5 times more than positive input(such as hate vs. love or peace vs. danger). This is even taken into account when building board and video games, and is related to the risk aversion system. (For more on this, study the works of Jordan Peterson and Jonathan Haidt, once again.)
This is more and more true for the rest of the world, as well, not just America/the West. These companies, such as Facebook will most likely control much of the entire planet and all its citizens by 2030, as a result (which is what Facebook and others expressly aim for, if you just listen to what Mark has to say). It's unclear how these matters will be resolved, and what the future relationship will be between citizen (user), tech giant, and government, but Ready Player One and/or Island (Huxley) are looking more and more reasonable as an outcome right now unless we see major crackdown on these tech giants by the governments and people. (Of course, I have no idea how the future will unfold, or when this could possibly come to be, but 2045 seems likely if not earlier, looking at our current projection and recent history. I think these companies became far too powerful -- and large -- when they began dictating the status of entire nations and people's core beliefs, and began crafting their own moral and social rulings, outside of American/English Law and custom. Google makes Nintendo look like a mom-and-pop store, for example. This tells me that Nintendo is still merely a company, regardless of its size and your thoughts towards it; whereas, Facebook/Google is something else entirely.)
Therefore, we may conclude that we are already entering The Matrix, as we speak, though it's more 'open' than 'closed', which could be deemed even worse given the state of affairs: there is not a 'perfect' false world and the 'real' world controlled by the alien machines, directly controlling us; rather, there is but one world, where we are willingly controlling our own strings like puppets, with the interfacing technology being the faceless, mindless A.I. systems of the vast social web-structure and the tech giants, of which we also created. (It's also interesting to see the 'Red Pill' idea pop up in the culture war, as well, given its origin in The Matrix film.)

2021.12.06 16:58 sonot_rainbowrhythms 2nd Ultrasound at 17 weeks?
I'm wondering what other twin parents' ultrasound schedules looked like because I'm a little concerned with how my OB office is handling things. If I'm overreacting, please feel free to let me know! I had my first ultrasound at 9 weeks (currently 10+3) and my OB doesn't have me scheduled for another until 17 weeks. Is this normal? Everything I've read said they should be checking again at 13 weeks. I'm also a little concerned with my OB in general because he gave me virtually no information after informing I'm having twins. For example, I asked if I should be eating more calories (especially since I'm still BF my first) and he said no?? He also said a twin pregnancy isn't much different from a singleton. I'm not one to believe Dr. Google over my actual doctor, but it's hard not to speculate when there is so much information online telling me the opposite. He never mentioned to me that twin pregnancies are automatically considered high risk. My next appointment is at 13 weeks and they're just supposed to measure and check for heartbeats on the doppler. Apparently he is the only one in the office able to do ultrasounds.
I live in a very rural area and have two choices as far as OBs go. The one I have now is local, which is the main reason I chose him. The other is at the nearest major hospital, which is always super busy and overcrowded, but I feel like they may provide better care? I was originally going to go with them but couldn't get anyone on the phone for 3 days and gave up.
So, am I just being paranoid and anxious and overreacting? Or is something off about this particular doctor. Any advice/opinions are welcome. TIA!
