2022.01.27 02:34 RositaDoesntMove Question about west Houston area

Hello, all. So I got a job in Houston and my gf and I (both 23 years old) will be moving there very soon. I have a couple questions I'm hoping to get some insight on. So my office will be essentially at the intersection of I10 and Gessner, on the west side of the city. I have heard nightmare stories about the traffic and commutes in Houston. I am wondering if we were to find a place closer to downtown (galleria, montrose, midtown, etc) and essentially reverse commute away from downtown in the mornings, and back towards downtown in the evenings... will the commute be as bad as everybody says?
I believe the office is in the area of Katy, which everybody says is a suburb and no fun unless you are a family with kids - but I'd like to live in an area with a fun nightlife and things to do.
Any and all insight is much appreciated! Thanks everyone!

2022.01.27 02:34 MotorImpression8353 is it logical to go from design eng to test eng?

Helloooo test engineers
I have been working for 5 years as a design engineer. so far I’ve been in three different companies working as a mechanical design engineer. Ive always been fascinated with the idea that we help bring ideas to reality through the design process, and how good design engineering can save and make money to a businesss. I believe that this is why I have always pushed myself to come up with ideas and design, and also learn new things that can improve my skill set as a design engineer.
however ,I’ve always been curious on learning how different teams add value when developing a product and I have come to realized that test engineers (in costumer electronics) are the mvp engineers because they have to know electrical, mechanical and software(firmware) in order to come up with test plans, then build and code them, and then identify failures points based on data .. long story short I have recently been interesting in learning more electronics and software,(I can’t do it in my spare time because I work on side gigs;engineering products for small businesses because they can’t afford to hire a mechanical engineering team), Im thinking about switching to test engineer so I can always be in the electronics and software environment but I want to know if I am wrong for thinking this way and hope you guys can share your daily tasks, and experienced.

2022.01.27 02:34 YoshiIsJason Is it just me or does elimine seem really bad?

While sure, false start can be a really powerful skill, it only works in cardinal directions on foes with lower res, and those ploy skills only hit like one enemy, two if you're lucky. The whole "ploy" archetype of skills is really outdated. Reiv just came out and he just sreads massive debuffs and stall on nearly the entire enemy team just by existing for comparison. And there's also the fact she doesn't even get wrathful on her weapon. Like I honestly think flayn is stronger because her damage reduction is on her weapon so you can run a c skill stronger than the false start ploy type skill.
Rant over. Still going to pull because Amalee, Claude, and mario kart.

2022.01.27 02:34 CannabisThailandMod Is Cannabis Legal in Thailand? Updated Version: Jan 27, 2022

Given all of the recent changes happening, I thought it might be a good time to revamp the pinned post.
Rather than edit the old pinned post, I opted to write a new post since some of the comments in the last pinned post wouldn’t make sense with the new content and might be confusing.
I’ve left the comments open here so anybody can ask questions, point out errors in this post, or add additional information.
I imagine that once the laws are finalized, an entirely new post will need to be written :-)
So, is cannabis legal in Thailand?
Yes, no, and a firm maybe.
Technically, Thailand legalized cannabis on Feb 19, 2019. However, that did not mean that people could just openly spark up on Feb 20.
Legalization was strictly for medical purposes and cannabis could only be sourced from licensed clinics who could only supply THC and CBD products from licensed processors.
It also left in place Thailand’s harsh drug penalties such as up to 5 years in jail for possession of any amount of cannabis under 10kg and up to 15 years for any amount over 10kg.
What the new law ended up enabling was for bonafide patients of a specially licensed physician to possess licensed THC or CBD tinctures.
No flower was permitted under that law.
Additionally, because of tight supplies of medical grade cannabis sourced through the proper channels, Thai government run cannabis clinics would often refuse foreigners as patients as they didn’t have enough supply to service Thai citizens.
Some authorized private clinics did pop up and would allow foreigner patients but access for foreigners was certainly not widespread.
The 2019 law also permitted growing cannabis but growers had to receive special permission and could only sell to licensed processors.
The law also made way for people to import CBD into Thailand if they had a prescription for medical use from their country of origin. However, the Thai FDA who needs to approve all imports of drugs didn’t really do much to facilitate allowing people apply for permission to import which effectively nullified people’s ability to import.
Some growers did receive permission to grow and cannabis-related products started appearing commercially. However, most of these were derived from low-THC hemp.
People could go into stores and buy cannabis-infused drinks or food made with hemp but legal access to anything with a high THC concentration was still fairly elusive.
And that’s pretty much how things stayed from Feb 2019 - Dec 2021.
Then in Dec 2021, the Office of Narcotics Control Board removed cannabis from Category 5 of the list of controlled substances.
Much like back in 2019, there was widespread misreporting in the media that cannabis was fully legal because it was no longer on the ONCB controlled substances list.
In fact, cannabis remained on the FDA list of controlled substances which meant that the legal status of cannabis had not changed at all.
On Jan 25, 2022 the government announced plans to introduce a bill that would further legalize cannabis for medicinal purposes.
However, only rough details were released and there is a 120-day period in which the government plans to formalize new rules regarding cannabis.
The Thai government quickly responded to the deluge of media reports that it had fully legalized cannabis by reminding people that nothing is official until it appears in the Royal Gazette and that anybody caught breaking Thailand’s existing drug laws will continue to be prosecuted until the new laws take effect.
As it stands, we know that the government has said they will seek rules which would allow the following:
Anybody would be able to grow cannabis for personal use AFTER informing their local government office. Currently growers need to seek permission, and this change would modify that to only a notification.
Still TBD sandbox areas would be defined in Thailand where cannabis could be used legally for recreational purposes.
Extracts containing THC at a concentration of greater than 0.2% would remain illegal to possess except via a licensed doctor and clinic. Importation of extracts would also remain illegal.
This still leaves several unanswered questions:
Was “extracts” the correct wording or do they mean that all cannabis with higher than 0.2% THC would remain illegal? At the moment, most people are focusing on that distinction. As Arun Avery, a well-known cannabis advocate in Thailand said to Coconuts Bangkok, the distinction is largely academic. The new rules tacitly make recreational smoking OK – without explicitly permitting it. Similar to a “don’t ask, “don’t tell” arrangement.
Will THC for recreational use be legal in non-sandbox areas and how will use be monitored outside of sandbox areas?
And therein is the reason why the answer to whether or not cannabis is (or will be) legal in Thailand is yes, no, and maybe. The government has yet to publish the laws and if, as Arun suggests, the laws basically allow people to possess and consume high concentration cannabis plants, there is no realistic way to enforce a ban on recreational use.
What we may see is something akin to how Thailand handles prostitution, it’s illegal but occurs openly and is tolerated.
Ultimately, Thailand will be attempting to thread a needle with the new cannabis laws as the Thai government has repeatedly expressed their intent to remain compliant with anti-drug agreements they’ve signed with other countries in the past.
Some of these agreements explicitly state that no signatory can allow the use of cannabis for anything other than medical or research purposes.
Several Thai government officials have danced around the subject by maintaining that their intent is to only allow medical cannabis use. Though it is unclear how they would distinguish between medical use and recreational use if everyone is allowed to grow their own cannabis.
Sending police out to everyone’s home to check the THC concentration of the plants they’re growing seems entirely unrealistic.

2022.01.27 02:34 jingleberryboo Sister says my dress is hers, mom agrees with her - what would you do?

I've been slowly cleaning out my room and decluttering my life. A few weeks ago I went through my clothes and put quite a lot of things in a "give away" pile. Unbeknownst to me, my mom and sister went through that pile and kept things that they wanted. A bit of context about my sister and my relationship: It's always been rocky, we've slowly patched things up but by no means are we best friends or anything. We all live together, but she's getting married this summer and moving away. Anyway fast forward to today, I'm in her room and notice that she's kept some of my dresses. I spot one which I didn't realize I put in the giveaway pile and asked her how/why she had it. She explained, and I said well, I'd like it back, I'm not sure how it got in the pile. She says no, I gave it away, and that it doesn't fit me etc. There's some screaming and a juvenile tug of war. I let go and walk away, hoping to get my mom to solve this issue. My mom is siding with her. My stance is that she can keep the other dresses, I'd just like that one back because I didn't mean to give it away. My mom says I put it in a give away pile, it's gone. I'm quite sad about this. How would you handle this situation?
